Kayaking and Film Photography

What happens when you want to take film photos in places that are bad for cameras? In my example my wife and I went kayaking in a cove on Drummond Island, Michigan and I wanted to take some film shots. In this scenario there’s a LOT that can go wrong and ruin a camera. Ever try to keep your balance while taking a photo in a kayak? It’s not that easy. Water can get in the kayak, you can flip over, there’s lots of camera-terminal contingencies one can imagine.

Some Scanned Negatives from my BumbleBee Holga

Really, a good portion of the fun of a Holga is modifying it to be your own. This particular one I got some time ago when Freestyle Photo ran a sale on a couple colored versions. This was before Holgas closed and then reopened. I got this one in “mustard”

The Holga Factory Has Closed

It’s always sad when a bastion of film photography is lost but the announcement from Freestyle Photo that the Holga Factory has closed hits a bit harder for me.

The Holga 120S was one of my first medium format cameras right after the antique shop Ansco Sure Shot. I modded the crap out of it which was really fun. B&W’s lastest contest

B&W is having an awesome photography contest for analog photographers. Everyone from wet plate enthusiasts to Lomo shooters can join in! Categories include alt process, toy camera/pinhole, vintage images, and smartphone.

Submissions will be accepted from 05/27/15 until 10/15/15. Submissions must be made on CD and mailed in. Cost is $30 for the entry of two images, each additional image is $10.
