365 Film challenge update!

Ok, I’m on a roll! It has not been easy and it’s not always inspiring. I’m a busy guy. I have two active kids, a wife that works full time, I have a part time job and a weekly DJ gig, I’ve been sick, I’ve had to clear snow, BUT I still have managed to do it. Stuffing a film frame or two on top of that has not been easy but it’s been fun.

Day 4: I used the Canon WP1 (portra NC) and shot some desolate, low saturation images of a windswept snowy parking lot.

Saginaw Old Golds "Contact Sheet"

“Contact Sheet” from the Saginaw Old Golds Baseball Game

On Sauturday, May 14th, 2016 (and Sunday) four Vintage Baseball teams from Michigan played four teams from Ohio. They play by 1860s rules, dress in 1800’s reproduction outfits, and play ball! My son and I went and watched out home town team, the Saginaw Old Golds play The Capitals. I shots these photographs with a Canon A-1, using a Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm, on read more

Getting Ready For the Summer!

Still needing to add some iso400 35mm. Thinking about trying to bulk roll some HP5. You can catch a glimpse of some FPP rolls in there!

The end of Chinese (photographic) films?

For a while now I’ve turned to inexpensive film made in China to experiment on. These tended to be Shanghai GP3 and Lucky SHD100. Both iso 100 films, both could be problematic at times but their low price made them very appealing for not-so-critical, fun photography. Both were (are?) made in 35mm and 120 with Shanghai also having a 4×5 and bulk 35mm products.

Lately it’s been hard to find. There’s still some on Ebay but it’s price has gone up considerably, around read more

Room Service: Motel Pinup

Motel Pinup 1

Every year for ten years now there has been a gather of film photographers in Northern Michigan called Photostock. There are so many great things about this gathering, the people, the talent, the beauty of Northern Michigan, the list goes on. One of the things I’ve enjoyed about it is the kitschy roadside motel that has been the epicenter of most gatherings, The Birchwood Inn.

Most participants stay at the Birchwood and we’ve been an ever increasing percentage of this sold out weekend. read more

Success and failures!

How’s it goin’? 60/40. Pretty much sums it up. Let’s start with the failures so we end on a positive note.

I saw two awesome shows in Chicago last year. Earthless, a power jam band, and Radio Moscow a blues driven power rock band. I took my Konica BigMini Zoom to both loaded with some Ilford Delta read more
