Fort Saginaw Mall

The Fort Saginaw Mall

The Fort Saginaw Mall was the first enclosed shopping mall in Saginaw, Michigan. It opened in 1966. K-Mart was one of the original anchor stores and remained as the final tenant before closing in 2004. Over the years it housed a Burlington Coat Factory, a Movie Theater, Federal’s, Norman’s Sporting Goods, 5-and-dime stores, a Pharmacy and more. Photos of the inside look beautiful in a mid-century kitsch sort of way.

I took this shot in 2008. I was new to urbex and really wanted to read more

Canon EOS 620 front view

The workhorse Canon EOS 620

The Canon EOS 620 is a hidden gem. A prosumer workhorse that you can get for extremely reasonable prices.

If you follow my posts you’ll see a trend with where the EOS 620 shows up. When I need something easy, reliable, and good, I grab the EOS 620.

It helps that I have some decent (and some funky) Canon EF (auto-focus) lenses from my wedding photography days. Originally I started with a Elan 7 and a EOS 650. I still have the Elan 7. It’s a decent camera that I still use that warrants read more

Phila mass turb

Just like the Philadelphia Mass Turbulence of 1947

Books oddly ordered and scattered about a room in Detroit’s Old Cass Tech High School building. The doors at this 4000 student capacity building were locked in 2006, contents and all. In the rust belt locked doors never stay locked for long.

A pretty good sized group of film photographers went on this trip back in 2009. Sadly the building was razed in 2011. When I was there it was like an 8 story Call of Duty map or something. There read more

Lushes LaMoan (pics in the article may be NSFW)

Lushes LaMoan is a burlesque dancer and founder of a Detroit burlesque troop. I saw her preform recently at a farewell party for some good friends. For me this was the first time I’ve ever seen burlesque done to a live jazz band! Really cool time.

Saginaw Art Museum Gardens 2016

Saginaw Art Museum Gardens

The Saginaw Art Museum is a really unique place in Saginaw, Michigan. It’s run by a handful of dedicated individuals who truly believing in bring art to the public and preserving it for future generations. I used to work part time here and still help out with exhibit prep as needed. The gardens are maintained by a team of volunteers and maintain the Italianate tradition as close as possible to the original garden from the early 1900s.

I believe this was shot with the Konica BigMini with read more

Dan and Silke

The Farewell Party!

There’s a couple that’s been going to Photostock since about 2009 that I befriended over the years. I didn’t see them often, but we followed each other on Facebook and other sites. We met up occasionally outside of Photostock to do some urban exploration in Detroit. They were friends I saw a few times a year. They are film Photographers that usually read more

Dewey Beach

Big “Oops!” with Svema MZ-3

When you’re shooting oddball films it’s always good to test before you go out and try to execute a plan. Well I didn’t and it bit me in the butt a bit. I had this plan to take some FFP Store Svema MZ-3 low iso film out to the beach, slap some filters on it and take some longer exposure images where people that are moving turn into smears or ghosts. Stuff that stays still looks fine. read more
