When you’re shooting oddball films it’s always good to test before you go out and try to execute a plan. Well I didn’t and it bit me in the butt a bit. I had this plan to take some FFP Store Svema MZ-3 low iso film out to the beach, slap some filters on it and take some longer exposure images where people that are moving turn into smears or ghosts. Stuff that stays still looks fine
Jeff Blandford is a ceramicist with an eye for the unusual. While he’s certainly know for throwing some very large works, I was intrigued by th differentness of his work and the creative way it was displayed. I took my grandfather’s Rollei T3 (F3.5) and a tripod to The Saginaw Art Museum and shot a roll of Tri-X 400 film. It’s not often something this enigmatic comes to town and I’m really glad I was able to catch it!

Recently this article on the nostalgia and cult brand of Kodak popped up on my radar. It’s an older article that talks about how Kodak refused to cannibalize their analog market with digital and that being their undoing. When the headline caught my attention my first thought was that Kodak isn’t a cult brand, it was like Coca Cola to Fuji’s Pepsi. I thought “if you want a cult film brand, try Efke!”
Then I thought, “Hmmm wonder if anyone is selling Efke on eBay?”
Ok, I’m on a roll! It has not been easy and it’s not always inspiring. I’m a busy guy. I have two active kids, a wife that works full time, I have a part time job and a weekly DJ gig, I’ve been sick, I’ve had to clear snow, BUT I still have managed to do it. Stuffing a film frame or two on top of that has not been easy but it’s been fun.
Day 4: I used the Canon WP1 (portra NC) and shot some desolate, low saturation images of a windswept snowy parking lot.<br
I’m going to give it a go. I’m going to shoot at least one frame a day for all of 2017! Medium format, large format, 35mm, it’s all game. People, urbex, murex, pinup, macro, studio, there’s no limits. I’m hoping this pushes me to do more of the things I know I can do well, but get lazy and don’t do plus get my feet wet with some things I never do. Macro? never really shot much of it. Self developed color? I’ll have to try it. Asking people if I can take
